Today, Peggy Lamm, Democratic candidate for Colorado?s 7th Congressional District, submitted 3315 signatures to the Colorado Secretary of State?s office to be listed on the August 8 primary ballot.
?I am overwhelmed by the broad support that I?ve received during my campaign.? Coloradans clearly want to see change in Washington and know I am the candidate who has the spine to stand up for our state?s working families,? said Lamm.? ?As I have been collecting signatures door-to-door, I?ve heard from countless Coloradans who believe it?s time to end the way the President and the Republicans in Congress have been doing business in Washington.? People are sick and tired of this administration?s failures on gas prices, Iraq, health care and a host of other issues, and they?re ready for a big change.??
Lamm announced in March that she would petition her name onto the primary ballot instead of taking the caucus route.
?Part of the problem in Washington these days is that the voices of regular people are not heard. I wanted to reach out by going door-to-door to encourage more participation in the primary election process.? I?m honored that over 3000 Coloradans signed my petition,? said Lamm.
Lamm Campaign Director Jim Merlino added that operatives for Ed Perlmutter?s campaign discussed their plans to challenge Lamm?s petition signatures at this weekend?s State Assembly.
?The Perlmutter campaign is well aware that they are losing this race by a significant margin, and they know that their best chance to win the primary is a Hail Mary attempt to keep Peggy off the ballot,? said Merlino.? ?Such a desperate challenge will fail badly, and would be nothing more than a slap in the face to the 3300 Coloradans who want Peggy Lamm on the ballot.?
Lamm collected over 1000 of the petition signatures herself.? She was joined in her efforts by staff and 20 volunteers.?
